90210 & New York Fashion Week

gq5By the time this story is published I should be somewhere in the air flying to Beverly Hills to meet with a client for a fitting. That client is actually making a TV appearance on a show that films here in New York. How’s that for irony?

It should be fabulous. I’ve always admired the California-based stylist. They get to do more with color – and they also seem happier. I’m thrilled to be working with this particular client, because his show is fabulous and I am absolutely obsessed with the characters.

I’m trying really hard to call him by his “real” name instead of his character’s name. But as I rehearse our interaction over and over again in my head, it seems to be a bit of a challenge.

As a stylist, one of the funniest things when traveling is that moment when you realize that a majority of the garments in your luggage are options for the client. Such is the case today.

That being said, I refuse to be down and out in Beverly Hills – so I’ve packed a good amount of options and pre-styled looks for myself with contingencies based on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Today starts New York Fashion Week and of course, I am bummed about missing some of the shows and parties – especially because I got invited to some great presentations this season. But the client comes first. And when I arrive in New York, I’ll have only missed the first three days. In New York Fashion Week time, a lot can happen in that small amount of time. And I’m still expected to cover the shows even in my absence. Deadlines never disappear!

I’ll be doing a separate post with my look for my DAY 1 of fashion week.

I can’t help but to think about how blessed I am to have been awarded some of the opportunities that I have at such a young age. Fashion is great, but faith has brought me this far – nothing else.

In the meantime, check out some photos from my last shoot!
